SOCIO-CULTURAL RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
Evaluation of political regions of interest involves understanding the various cultural, political, social, and economic factors that influence the behavior of populaces and political actors. This is accomplished through a combination of anthropological, psychological, and social network analysis. In many studies we have that the behavior of social actors is highly coupled to their position and mode of operation of a social network.
Results of a Previous Study
One study we conducted revealed that periphery members of particular Arab ethnic group are much more likely to engage in political violence than more central, or fundamentalist, members. It was also found that an actor’s position in the terrorist network is dependent on individual behavioral beliefs and triggers. These entail:
1. Ideological Congruence: Similarity between individual beliefs and the core beliefs of the terrorist group.
2. Relational Affinity: Having a preexisting relationship with current members of a terrorist network.
3. Personal Loss: The death of a loved one caused by enemies of the terrorist organization.
4. Humiliation: Level of humiliation suffered as a result of actions by enemies of the terrorist organization.
5. Cultural Separation/Reattachment: The desire to attach to extremists of a society due to feelings of social guilt that arise from between separated from the suffering of one’s socio-ethnic group

Assessing these values in relation to the demography of a region or populace allows one to construct empirical models that can offer prediction regarding:
- What cultural triggers affect observed behaviors of a society
- Who are the key members of a society that influence behaviors
- Their projected role/level of attachment in community decision making
